5 Quick and Easy Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Cincinnati Home
Spring has finally arrived here in Cincinnati, and with it comes the annual spring cleaning event everyone celebrates this time of year.
So to make things a little easier, and to get your home ready for warmer weather, we thought we’d give you 5 quick and easy spring cleaning and organization tips.
With spring weather in bloom, cleaning and organizing your closet for warm weather will do your peace of mind a lot of good. Get rid of, or donate old and unworn clothing and accessories. A good rule is if you haven’t worn it in six months, consider purging it. Otherwise, pack away winter clothes, and organize warm weather clothes by how you get dressed in the morning.
After a long Ohio winter, your windows no doubt need some extra TLC. Wash your windows inside and out with a non-streaking cleaner, and wipe off interior sills so they are free of dust. Clean screens with a light cleaner and wash clear with soap and water. Now breathe in that warm, spring air.
To clean your painted walls and give them a fresh start, begin with a clean cloth and a bucket of warm, soapy water. Start from the top to the bottom, wiping gently in a sweeping motion. Have a dry cloth handy to clear drips. For stains on the paint, simply apply a few drops of mild dish detergent and wipe clean. For tougher stains, apply a light cleanser and wipe away. Avoid wiping too vigorously so the paint isn’t damaged.
To dust thoroughly, and remove winter allergens, it’s best to begin with places you don’t regularly dust, or areas that you only get to once and a while, like ceiling fans, tops of refrigerators, bookshelves, and cabinets. Also, for best results, remove all items from shelves, dressers, etc., and dust beneath. Any allergy sufferers in your home will thank you. With all the allergens we have in Cincinnati, it’s nice to have a refuge from irritants during Spring.
For homes with carpets, to get the most out of your annual spring cleaning event, it’s best to thoroughly vacuum all areas of your home, including under furniture. This is especially important if you are planning a deep clean afterward. For homes with wood floors, damp-mop with a mild floor cleanser designed to protect your wood. Also, to avoid water damage or scratching, place trivets or saucers under plants.
It’s that easy to get started! This should give you a good jumping off point. Keep a keen eye as you start in on your Spring Cleaning and make note of any problem areas you’ll need to tackle in a deep cleaning.
